        Job Summary

        The Interim Dean of Academic Affairs leads various academic departments and academic support services at a large comprehensive community college. As part of the College Leadership Team, the dean promotes a culture of collaboration, communication, process improvement, data-informed decision-making, programmatic excellence, and service excellence. The dean demonstrates a genuine commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and an unwavering commitment to student success. The dean embraces shared governance and collaborative problem-solving. The dean works closely with academic affairs, student affairs, and administrative services administrators, faculty, staff and the community in support of student success, including enrollment, retention, and completion. The dean provides administrative leadership of academic departments and instructional support services, such as Communication and World Languages, English/Reading, Library, Mathematics/Computer Science, Philosophy/Religious Studies, Social Sciences, Testing Services, and Dual Enrollment.

        Essential Functions

        30% - Actively collaborates with department chairs, program directors, faculty, other deans, and staff to support teaching and learning at a comprehensive community college

        30% - Develops, manages, and implements a variety of academic projects and innovative programs

        20% - Works collaboratively to ensure consistent exercise of college and district academic policies, procedures, and regulations, while also promoting process improvement and efficiency

        10% - Provides leadership of academic services such as testing services and dual enrollment

        5% - Assists the Vice President of Academic Affairs in hiring residential faculty and staff and evaluation of faculty and staff. Develops and promotes professional development opportunities

        5% - Perform other duties as required

        Minimum Qualifications

        Master's Degree in a teaching field related to area(s) of assignment and four years of experience in academic leadership and/or supervisory role in higher education and three years of teaching that includes curriculum/coursework development. Examples of academic leadership/supervisory experience includes: division/department chair, project management, policy development, administration, evaluation and compliance, committee leadership, program director, and shared governance. No degree equivalency.

        Desired Qualifications

        A. Experience working as a dean, department chair, or administrator at the college level

        B. Experience working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and the community to develop and implement initiatives and services to promote student success

        C. Experiences, as described on resume, with innovative teaching methodologies utilizing multiple instructional technologies

        D. Experience, as described on resume, with effective assessment at multiple levels

        E. Demonstrated experience planning and/or implementing culturally responsive academic programs relevant to a diverse population

        F. Demonstrates interdisciplinary thinking with a future-focused approach to academic leadership

        G. Provides evidence of current and continuing professional development

        Special Working Conditions
        • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas.
        • Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet
        • minimum standards regarding driving:
        • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
        • Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD/GCC locations
        • May require numerous evenings or weekends
        • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
        • May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs
