      Job Summary

      Performs a full range of grounds maintenance and gardening duties; assists in various related construction and landscaping projects; and prepares other special venues according to the user's request or published specifications.

      Essential Functions

      30% - Mows lawns, trims, prunes trees, fertilizes, maintains irrigation systems, waters, sweeps walkways and building entry ways

      25% - Performs herbicide and pesticide applications, digs trenches, cultivates, plants and transplants, spreads mulch, rakes leaves/debris

      20% - Operate various grounds equipment, such as tractors, mowers, edger's, trimmers, spreaders, aerators, top dressers, etc.

      20% - Moves equipment and furniture; operates parking lot sweepers and dump truck; empties trash receptacles; washes patio and entryways; and provides flood irrigation service

      5% - Maintaining tools and equipment to ensure safe working conditions and other duties as assigned

      Minimum Qualifications

      High School Diploma or GED.

      OR

      An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

      Desired Qualifications
    • Currently possess a State of Arizona Structural Pest Control Commission pesticide certification
    • One year of experience working grounds maintenance in a large property (20 acres or more) institution or higher education campus
    • One year of working on gardening beds and planting trees
    • One year of experience with specialized procedures related to irrigation systems
    • One year of experience seeding and fertilizing turf; care and maintain equipment efficiently

      Special Working Conditions
      • Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving: http://www.maricopa.edu/legal/rmi/vehicle.htm#requirements
      • Possession a State of Arizona Structural Pest Control Commission pesticide certification
      • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
      • May be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
      • May require numerous evenings or weekends
      • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
      • May be required to lift or carry up to #50 lbs
      • May require numerous evenings or weekends
      • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals and substances which may present health hazards if not handled properly
      • May require frequent bending, stooping, and walking
