Job Summary
The Student Services Specialist will provide processing/frontline
administrative support to the Financial Aid Department at the GCC
North Campus, with occasional work hours at our Main campus on
Olive Ave.
Performing technical and demanding financial aid duties, this
position will analyze and process data to determine financial aid
eligibility. Additional duties include determining award amounts,
making awards, and administering specific financial aid programs.
This position will assist students with the completion of financial
aid and scholarship materials. This position may involve resolving
escalated financial aid issues and concerns. As a liaison between
campus departments and external agencies, this position may also
conduct financial aid and scholarships presentations on and off
campus.
Essential Functions
40% Reviews and performs technically complex Title IV processes
including review of financial aid applications, packaging student
financial aid inclusive of; verification, budget proration,
awarding, authorization of funds, corrections to ISIRs, post award
adjustments, etc. Responsible for processing numerous reports.
30% Provide accurate and consistent customer service to students
and parents regarding financial aid programs and related services.
Analyze/interpret regulations and respond to inquiries requiring
detailed knowledge of regulations and policies. Ensure compliance
with all financial aid policies, and adhere to a superior level of
customer service.
20% Assists students with the financial aid process from initial
application to award. Performs regular follow-up, via email and
phone calls to ensure students understand the financial aid process
and assists with verifying applications for accuracy and
completeness. Represent the college at special events, such as
financial aid workshops, orientations, and other on campus
programs.
5% May administer financial aid programs such as student
employment, loan programs, providing requested information and
reviewing/documenting office practices and procedures.
5% May assist in training and direction of students, staff, and
temporaries, performs duties as assigned commensurate with the
level of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in
business administration, education or directly related field, and
one year of experience assisting with educational program
development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or
related student development programs
OR
High School Diploma or GED and three years of directly related
full-time work experience as described above sufficient to
successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those
listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements
set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
Desired Qualifications
A. Two (2) or more years' recent experience (within the last 36
months) working in a financial aid office with knowledge in Federal
and State aid regulations, programs, compliance, policies and
student financial aid guidelines.
B. Two (2) or more years' experience in all facets of packaging,
awarding, and disbursing student financial aid in compliance with
federal and state laws.
C. Two (2) or more years' experience utilizing internal/external
databases such as Student Information Systems (PeopleSoft) or any
other financial management system.
D. Two (2) or more years' experience providing excellent customer
service in a diverse population.
E. Two (2) or more years' experience interpreting/following
regulatory policies in day to day work.
