Job Summary:

The Risk Analyst – BSA/AML Specialist will be a FINRA-associated person and/or registered principal responsible for first line implementation, application and oversight of the BSA/AML and Sanctions Program (the Program) for Unionbanc Investment Services, LLC (UBIS).  The Program will consist primarily of conducting new and existing customer due diligence, quality control in regard to the UBIS Customer Identification Programs (CIP), Know Your Customer (KYC) account opening processes/documentation requirements, and providing subject matter guidance in consultation with UBIS Compliance to the Line of Business (LOB).  The incumbent also participates in working groups and on special projects and provides guidance to staff on risk issues to facilitate resolution.

Major Responsibilities:

Proactively identify business line risk. 

  • Conduct first-line KYC functions/support. 
    • Customer Identification and Verification; Customer Screening; and Adverse Media Searches.
    • Customer Due Diligence (“CDD”) - assist in assigning each Customer a risk rating reflecting the level of Financial Crimes risks presented by that Customer based on information gathered during the Customer identification and CDD processes.
    • Enhanced Due Diligence (“EDD”) and Specialized Due Diligence if applicable
    • Periodic and Ad Hoc Customer Reviews - support regular risk-based Customer reviews throughout the life of the Customer relationship. 
  • Use UBIS and/or multiple Bank systems to evaluate front-line clients risk profiles and determine appropriate risk coding. 
  • Responsible for understanding new and existing BSA/AML/OFAC Regulations and applying this knowledge to enhancing current Supervisory Policy and Procedures. 
  • Assist UBIS Compliance in responding to both internal and external audits/examinations.
  • Assist management in achieving BSA/AML compliance goals by identifying and recognizing potential money laundering situations.  
  • Participate in working groups and on special projects to provide guidance to staff on account level risk issues to facilitate resolution. 
  • Build and conduct training related to risk issues impacting the firm and contribute to the dissemination of risk management best practices and measurements.
  • Provide project management support in the development and implementation of risk management best practices to support business line risk priorities.
  • Develop risk reports and presentations for business line risk management leadership.
  • Reports and escalates as necessary to management and promotes cultural awareness of risk management practices.
  • Perform risk research and analysis and formulate recommendations to make processes more efficient as well as identify trends and/or symptoms of process control breakdowns.
  • Ensure success of remediation activities through effective process monitoring.
  • Identify external and internal events that may impact the business, assess implications for the business, and recommend approaches to mitigate resulting risks.
  • Conduct existing and new business line monitoring programs and controls: participate in the design and implementation of existing and new monitoring programs and controls to address business risk, directly and as a back-up to other risk staff.
  • Although this role is primarily dedicated to BSA/AML support it can be assigned to other areas of risk depending on capacity and management discretion.


Education, Licensure, Year of Experience (and type of work experience):

  • Candidate should have at least 5+ years as an analyst with related experience in risk management, compliance, or internal audit functions within a financial institution.
  • Strong working knowledge of Broker/Dealer and Bank BSA/AML policies and controls preferred.  
  • Direct experience using broker/dealer mainframe systems and web-based applications are required as are strong internet research skills. 
  • FINRA Series 7 and 24 licenses required or must be obtained within 12 months of start date.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of BSA, AML and OFAC rules and regulations.  
  • Knowledge of FINRA/SEC rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of OCC Regulations applicable to large banks and trust companies helpful.
  • Strong knowledge of investment management and products and services.
  • Knowledge of project management.
  • Good verbal and written skills for presentation to management and committees.
  • Understanding of current regulatory environment and requirements.

  • Must be flexible and able to balance several priorities at once.
