Orthopaedic Surgery Specialists (OSS) is a busy medical group that provides comprehensive musculoskeletal care to the greater Los Angeles area. The providers are affiliated with Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center and two ambulatory surgery centers in the area. The practice prides itself on tradition, respect and state-of-the-art patient care. OSS is a BUSY practice and employs clinicians that are committed to teamwork, excellence, and personalized patient care. OSS Physical & Hand Therapy, established in September of 2016, is an outpatient orthopaedic rehabilitative center comprised of a Physical Therapy Department and a Hand Therapy Department. The center offers patients and the community excellent rehabilitative care in coordination with OSS surgeons and providers.

Position Summary


The role of the Patient Account Coordinator manages collection efforts of outstanding patient accounts in an accurate and timely manner, while focusing on a positive, helpful experience for the patient.

: Full Time

Starting Rate: $16.00 per hour

Minimum Education:
  • Employee will have a minimum of a high school diploma

  • 1+ years experience as a patient account coordinator
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, physician dictation, and operative reports ideal but not required
  • Accuracy in data entry/input
  • Experience/knowledge of insurers
  • Excellent communications: verbal, non-verbal, written
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and attention to detail
  • Ability to problem solve for good outcomes
  • Strong computer skills including:
  • Microsoft Office
  • Practice management/Appointment schedules
  • Scanning
  • Printing
  • Copying of files and CDs
  • Familiarity with medical legal needs within a medical office
  • Data Entry
  • Good understanding of anatomical terms and orthopedic injuries ideal but not required
  • Belief that their efforts are an important piece to the patient experience.
Reports to:
  • Directly to the Office Manager and COO
  • Partners and Medical Professionals have indirect oversight as well
  • Works with the RCM team including billers and posters
Job Responsibilities: Duties will consist of, but not be limited to:
  • Collecting outstanding account balances for patients
  • Generating, printing, and mailing precise statement to patients on a daily basis
  • Calling patients to settle past-due accounts
  • Maintaining accurate account balances for all patient accounts
  • Tracking communication with patients
  • Forward delinquent (uncollectable) patient accounts to collections agency
  • Handling of patient questions, requests, and disputes in a timely manner
Work Environment:
  • Work area is temperate
  • Well lit
  • Moderate noise level including voices, printers, and ringing phones
  • Use of headset
  • Walking surfaces are low nap carpet, tile, and manufactured flooring
Physical Requirements:
  • Primarily working in a sitting position
  • Up to 90% on the computer
  • Lifting requirement is normally less than 20#
  • Walking distances are occasional and no greater than 50 yards unless walking to or from the parking garage, but performed repetitively
  • Extensive phone use. Headsets made available.
