Summary: Screens students whose ability to function is limited by physical and/or sensory deficits and/or delays, and provides direct, indirect, or consultative services to enable students benefit from their educational program.

Essential Functions:

  • Screens students' physical, perceptual motor and sensorimotor, developmental, and self-help functioning skills based on formal and informal evaluations.
  • Develops occupational therapy objectives and activities that can be implemented by teachers and assistants.
  • Provides therapy for students who have delays in physical, perceptual motor, and/or sensorimotor functions.
  • Identifies students' needs for adaptive equipment and classroom accommodations/modifications.
  • Instructs students, family, and school staff members in all the use of special equipment.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary conferences to develop Individualized Education Programs for students entering or continuing in special education programs.
  • Determines appropriate occupational therapy equipment and supply needs, makes purchase requests for equipment, and supplies as appropriate, and maintains inventory of occupational therapy equipment and supplies.
  • Measures individual student progress in therapy programs on a regular basis, communicating findings to teachers, parents, and others involved through direct consultation or written reports.
  • Completes quarterly and other reports requested by the Special Services Administrator or Occupational Therapist.
  • Attends appropriate professional conferences, workshops, and in-service training programs.
  • Provides professional development for staff members.
  • Maintains records and bills Medicaid In Public Schools.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications:

    Hold certification as a registered Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in Arizona and by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card. Up-to-date or ability to obtain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)/restraint certification.

    Knowledge and Skills Required:

    • Interpreting and implementing therapeutic theories and practices;
    • Making group presentations;
    • Instructing others in techniques and procedures;
    • Using testing and measuring methods in evaluating students;
    • Assigning and monitoring the work of support staff;
    • Screening and evaluating students with disabilities or special needs;
    • Interpreting medical terminology;
    • Revising, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic programs.
    • Interpersonal communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.
