Histopathology Laboratory - AZ - College of Veterinary Medicine The
Manager of Histopathology Laboratory reports to the Director of
Pathology Laboratory and is responsible for overseeing the
day-to-day operations and maintenance of the purpose built,
state-of-the-art veterinary histology laboratory. The laboratory
provides service for veterinary diagnostic pathology cases and
teaching materials. In addition, the laboratory also provides
histology/histopathology research support for the wider Midwestern
University community. The Manager of Histopathology Laboratory must
be flexible, capable of independent work, and demonstrate excellent
team development skills. The incumbent will be expected to attend
training sessions and other forms of continuing education to help
facilitate laboratory development.Essential Duties and
Responsibilities
- Contribute to a collaborative, high-functioning team with an
expanding caseload
- Participate in and facilitate the management of operational,
personnel, and financial activities, including management of
invoices and billing
- Establish and maintain laboratory SOP's, QA/QC protocols, and
risk assessments
- Develop and maintain inventories of equipment and consumables
and facilitate routine maintenance of instruments
- Demonstrate a good working knowledge of standard histochemical
staining techniques used in veterinary histopathology
- Engage in all aspects of histology laboratory technical work
including tissue trimming, embedding, operation of automated
microtomes, slide and block labelers, histochemical and
immunohistochemical stainers, and cover slippers Supervisory
ResponsibilitiesThis position will have supervisor
responsibility.Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an

Must have at least 3 years' experience working in an accredited
histopathology (i.e. veterinary, industry, or research) laboratory
with at least one year in a supervisory or leadership role.
Associates degree in biological sciences or medical related field
desired. Must be certified by the ASCP (American Society for
Clinical Pathology, or NSH (National Society for Histotechnology)
as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL). Graduate from
a NAACLS (National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory
Sciences) accredited program preferred. Computer Skills - Computer
proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). The job will
require proficiency with an integrated hospital management system;
previous experience desirable. Language Skills - Intermediate
skills : Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety
rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure
manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or
employees of organization. Reasoning Ability - Basic skills :
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed
but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to
troubleshoot equipment problems and develop decision trees and
protocols that other employees can understand. Mathematical Ability
Basic skills : Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all
units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and
decimals. - Physical Demands The physical demands described here
