We're looking for someone to join our team as a Manager, Laboratory who: Maintains responsibility for the overall operation of the clinical laboratory in consultation with and under the direction of Medical Directors (Pathologists) and the Regional Clinical Laboratory Directors. Is responsible for developing, monitoring and providing leadership for the financial, contracting, regulatory, accreditation and client services policies and procedures for the clinical and anatomic laboratories, selection of the appropriate instrumentation or test methodologies, developing and maintaining appropriate quality assurance (QA) program, monitoring testing and QA processes including recording and reporting of results, ensuring program compliance with applicable regulations and safe working environment, managing staff and develop training and competency for testing personnel. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel using both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment. Essential Functions: Manages the day-to-day operations of a unit/department. Maintains first line accountability for outcomes and satisfaction. Facilitates effective organization of staff, equipment, supplies and time. Supervises unit/department through delegation of tasks. Prepares technical reports reflecting volume of work, procedures utilized and test results. Coordinates the preparation of reports and analyses, setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations, or conclusions. Participates in the development of new medical laboratory procedures and techniques. Plans, develops and presents workshops. Ensures program compliance with applicable regulations and safe working environment. Uses consistent exercise of discretion and judgment.Develops and implements quality control programs to ensure reliability of testing procedures, proper function of laboratory equipment and compliance with federal regulations; prepares and maintains applicable records. Provides advanced problem solving, troubleshooting, interpretation/consultation, verification of specimen quality and test results. Recommends and develops quality cost containment programs for laboratory services (e.g., staffing patterns, utilization, etc.). Monitors Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Safety and Inspection Control practices to assure compliance with internal/external regulations. Reviews patient and quality control results for shifts and trends, monitoring quality of departmental functions.Manages, coordinates and evaluates all elements of laboratory services in assigned specialties of the Laboratory (Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Phlebotomy, Specimen Processing, Immunology, Pathology etc.) in support of quality laboratory service and organizational mission of patient care. Works in conjunction with regional technical specialists. Interprets accrediting agencies standards or guidelines for ancillary testing program and translates requirement into policies and procedures; initiates corrective action as soon as deficiency is identified; completes checklist and other information sheets required and coordinates on-site inspection of sections.Provides guidance and oversight to ensure consistency across all the laboratories in hiring practices, compensation, promotions and disciplinary actions. Trains, supervises and schedules the senior laboratory assistants, laboratory assistants/phlebotomists. Assigns staff to patients and patient care activities according to staff skills and patient acuity. Adjusts daily work assignments to meet the demands of the department. Performs evaluations, promotions, salary recommendations, disciplinary action and termination of staff, as required. Exercises discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance, evaluating and comparing possible courses-of-action, and making decisions/recommendations after considering the various possibilities.Oversees financial aspects of the laboratory, including coordinating and preparing the capital and operational budgets. Monitors and investigates monthly budget variances; prepares and reports internal and peer comparison financial and performance indicators, maintaining the charge description master. Collaborates closely with the Laboratory Directors and Supervisors on current/future financial challenges. Works closely with Finance to ensure proper billing, accounting, auditing, CPT coding, Medicare/Medicaid billing procedures and protocols are followed.Performs other job-related duties as assigned. QualificationsYou'll be successful with the following qualifications: Education: Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, biological sciences, chemical sciences or allied health technologies or equivalent: RequiredMaster's Degree: Preferred Work Experience: Five years clinical laboratory experience: PreferredOne year's leadership experience: Preferred Required Licenses/Certifications: Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) licensure in the state of practice: RequiredCurrent certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency for Labs (NCA): Preferred Adventist Health is committed to the safety and wellbeing of our associates and patients.
