The position reports to the Chair of the Department of Osteopathic Family and Community Medicine (OFCM).Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ is a graduate degree-granting institution specializing in the health sciences with eight colleges: the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, the College of Health Sciences, the College of Pharmacy, the College of Dental Medicine, the College of Graduate Studies, the College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Podiatric Medicine and the College of Optometry. Midwestern University's campus in Glendale, AZ is home to over 3000 students, occupies 105 acres with state-of-the-art academic facilities, student housing, and an outpatient clinic. The University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission, a Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAdministrative Responsibility

  • Develop, assess and implement the AMOE curriculum
  • Serve as the course director for all AMOE courses
  • Ensure that student instructor and course evaluations are performed, and scores and comments are distributed to appropriate faculty.
  • Assess the quality of education rendered in the classroom and clinical settings by all OMM scholars, and core and adjunct faculty and make recommendations for improvements as needed.
  • In coordination with the OFCM Chair, review annual faculty development plans and annual staff goals and provide recommendations as needed.
  • Mentor OMM scholars on fulfillment of service, teaching and scholarship responsibilities and allocate program resources as needed to facilitate progress towards achieving AMOE degree requirements.
  • Participate in the recruitment of adjunct faculty and staff and provide recommendations as needed
  • Monitor, document and record student academic performance
  • Promote and monitor professionalism, and actively participate in the student mentoring program.
  • In coordination with the OFCM Chair and in consultation with faculty/staff concerning needs, prepare the annual program budget according to the designated timeline, and monitor the implementation of the approved budget to ensure expenses remain within budgetary limits.
  • After consultation with the faculty, staff and students, annually revise the Program's strategic plan and prepare recommendations for the OFCM Chair to submit to the AZCOM Dean and/or Associate Dean for updating the College strategic plan. -
  • Provide annual Program assessments and other requested reports to the OFCM Chair and AZCOM Dean and/or Associate Dean and the University Administration.
  • Attend all regularly scheduled Department of Osteopathic Family and Community Medicine meetings.
  • Enforce adherence to the bylaws, rules, regulations, and policies of Midwestern University.
  • Ensure faculty and staff adherence to the University policies and procedures for management of the Program.
  • Effectively communicate with the OFCM Chair, faculty, staff, MWU Multispecialty Clinic management, and University support departments to ensure the day-to-day operations of the Program.
  • Attend AAO Convocation to oversee AMOE students at the A. Hollis Wolf competition.
  • Communicate with the OFCM Chair and AZCOM Dean's Office concerning faculty, staff and student issues.
  • Generate ad hoc reports as requestedAcademic Responsibility
    • Actively participate in the teaching program in AZCOM, including OMM labs.
    • Teach and mentor all OMM Scholars enrolled in the Applied Master of Osteopathic Education program
    • Manage AMOE Canvas courses as course director for AMOE students.
    • Participate in OMM Scholar recruitment and selection for the Applied Master of Osteopathic Education.
    • Assist with OMM training for affiliated and sponsored GME programs.
    • Actively engage in scholarly activities according to area(s) of expertise.
    • Engage AMOE students in Quality Improvement projects in the MWU Multispecialty Clinic.
    • Oversee AMOE student research and case presentation projects.Service Responsibility
      • Serve on University, College, and Program Committees as assigned.
      • Serve the Program/Profession through participation with local and/or national organizations.
      • Serve as advisor to AAO student club and to OMM Scholars
      • Provide patient care in the Midwestern University Multispecialty Clinic 2 days per weekPosition Requirements
        • Full-time faculty appointment in the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine
        • O. Degree
        • Board certification in Family Medicine or Neuromuscular Medicine by either American Osteopathic Association or American Board of Medical Specialties
        • Must have at least 3 years of academic experience, a record of scholarly activity and some administrative experience
        • Willingness to see patients in the MWU Multispecialty Clinic, including ambulatory training of MWU students and NMM residents as assigned.
        • Record of accomplishments in the areas of teaching, research, and service
        • Faculty credentials commensurate with the rank of Assistant Professor or higher
        • Effective written and verbal communication skills
        • Evidence of leadership, teamwork, and professionalism in the academic settingThe University seeks an individual with leadership, vision and creativity that demonstrates:Preference will be given to those with:
          • A history of administrative experience to support the position's responsibilities for curriculum implementation, assessment and revision, student advising, personnel management, and budget management
          • Familiarity with, and a working knowledge of, the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, its mission, operations, and goals
          • Ability to lead by example in all areas of the academic triad
          • An understanding of quality improvement projects desirable
          • Previous experience participating in an OMM scholar/fellow program, either as a student or faculty
